1. Voice Activated Smart Phone Photographs

Many moons ago I mentioned that when I take a photo on my phone, I simply say “smile”. Easy. Lovely. No fiddling or jiggling. Though you might have to weather a stare or two in a crowd, it is so utterly easy to take a photo that way. This past weekend away up in Whananaki, I was snapping away as we Aucklanders were finally set free for a beautiful overnight stay.

In the Samsung Galaxy, you’ll find the voice activation in the camera settings.

Check your phone’s settings for voice activation.

2. September Webinars

Please don’t forget this month’s three Webinars: Excellent Value. Concise Learning. Hours Freed Up. Stress Reduced

  • 10 September: Fabulous Excel Tips & Tricks
  • 16 September: Microsoft Word Magic
  • 30 September: Secret Diamonds of Google

3. Make Excel Cells Stand Out

With Conditional Formatting. This feature allows you to colour text; a cell or apply an icon automatically to information that meets a criteria you set. For example the top 10% of sales. Sales by Tom. Amounts over or under $5000. Rank sales by size and so on.

This is one of the tips that is, along with 20 others in my upcoming Excel Fabulous Tips & Tricks webinar this Thursday (10 September). Why not book now?

P.S. There’s a great new function in Excel for those with Office 2019. It replaces H and VLookup. You’ll learn about it in the webinar too.

4. Free Up Your iPhone Storage

Make more room on your iPhone by setting up Automatic Message Deletion. Though each message you send requires only a drop of storage, after a bit they can build up.

Avoid this by setting your messages to automatically delete after a set period of time. Click Settings > Messages and under “Message History” you can select the expiry date for your messages. (30 days; One year; Forever)

5. Word – Getting Your Headline to Fit

Do you ever have a title or headline that spreads just a wee over one line – but you’d love it to be on one? Well never fear. There’s an easy way to do it instead of making the font smaller. You can squeeze (condense) the letters together a bit more. You’ll find it in the Home Ribbon > Font Menu > hit the corner square. The font dialogue box opens > Click the Advanced Tab> Select Spacing >Condensed and have a play with the amount you want the squeeze to be.

Yes, you know I’m going to say it. This is one of the 20 + tips in my upcoming MS Word Magic webinar on the 16th of September. Why not book now?

6. Planting Seeds – Zero Waste

If you have tried in the past to use toilet rolls or egg cartons to start seeds, you’ll find it’s not entirely optimum. My toilet rolls didn’t seem to disintergrate last summer.

I’ve just watched a video where soil was put in a (used) ½ eggshell along with the seed of course. You can store them in the egg carton. When they’re ready to plant, simply crush the egg shell and plant along with the wee little plant. Great for the soil too.

In fact we save all our egg shells, crush them and add to the garden.
