1. Ensure Office Emails Get Proper Attention
Do staff at your organisation CC often? If yes, here’s a great idea.
Preface interoffice cc subject lines with 3 different acronyms. FYI – for your information. FYA – for your action. UA – Urgent attention. Or something similar.
Take it to a higher level and use Rules (Filters in Gmail). Staff can make three (FYI FYA UA) folders and then have Rules automatically put the incoming emails in the correct (FYI, FYA, UA) folder.
Do you share or manage inboxes? When one person works on an email, add onto the subject line an agreed acronym such as initials, done, to do – etc. This lets the other person know and they can also of course sort emails by subject
2. Change Received Email Subject Lines
Following on from the tip above I’m guessing you’d like to know how you actually can change the subject line of an email you’ve received and want to keep.
- Open the email.
- Highlight the old subject line and type over it what you’d like.
- Hit save and close the email.
- Sorry Gmail doesn’t have this feature
3. Start a Sharing Table
Does it bother you when you drive by homes with lawns strewn with fruit dropped by trees and they’re left there to rot?
What do you do with the excess greens and veggies you might have grown? Or extra seedlings?
With food prices climbing and availability challenges, why not start a sharing table at work the gym, the kids schools, your church?
I suggested this at my YMCA gym, and they put up a swap table for members to bring in and take items. It can be herbs, leaves, lemons, limes, anything you have. I have been bringing in and sharing packages of seeds, extra seedlings I grew, salad leaves even propagated plants.
4. Enable Calendar Keyboard Shortcuts
Want to switch more swiftly between calendar views of days/weeks/month? Use these keyboard shortcuts.
Google Calendar
To access the shortcuts enable them in Settings. Click the gear in the upper right corner of your calendar, hit Settings, then select “Keyboard shortcuts.”
Switch views to:
- Day: 1 or d
- Week: 2 or w
- Month: 3 or m
- 7 days: 4 or x
- Agenda: 5 or a
Outlook Calendar the joy is in the Alt key
- Alt + 1 for a 1 day view. Ditto through to Alt +9 (for a nine-day view). That means of course a one week view is Alt + 7
- Alt + 0 is a 10 day view
- Alt + = one month view
