1. When you Don’t Want to Use Email Rules
Outlook View Ribbon > Conditional Formatting.
Simply set the font (font, size, colour, bold, italic) and the condition you want met. For example, emails from specific people or with specific words in the subject or body. Once you create the condition it works retroactively through your inbox emails.
Gmail. A three-step process.
- Create a label (the equivalent to Outlook folders) from the top toolbar when you click on an email.
- Right click the label in the navigation pane to assign it a colour.
- Create a filter (the equivalent of Rules in Outlook) to apply the label when the condition is met by incoming emails. You’ll find filters by clicking the gear > settings > Filters and blocked addresses
2. Two Great Simple Excel Tips
- Wrap Text. You’ll love this if you don’t know it (yet)! If you have lots of text in one cell, and don’t want part to be hidden behind the adjoining column nor show in front of it, you can wrap the text into multiple lines within that one cell. Moving the left or right margin enables you to increase/decrease the width.
- Excel: Wrap Text is in the Home Ribbon, Alignment menu.
- Google Sheets Format Menu > Wrapping
2. Line Break Alternatively have the information appear on separate lines within the same cell with line breaks.
Excel and Google Sheets
- Double-click the cell in which you want to insert a line break.
- Click the location where you want to break the line.
- Press ALT+ENTER to insert the line break.
