Keeping the Cell Phone Zero in Excel and Google Sheets
What is your workaround for keeping cell phone numbers in your spreadsheets? Typing in the letter O? Adding spaces?
Instead, you can force Excel and Google Sheets to display placeholder 0 digits by applying a custom format. Here’s how:
Excel
- Select the cell, range or column.
- Home Ribbon > Number Menu select the Drop down arrow (it probably will say General);
- Select More Number Formats > Custom.
- Type in the number of zeros that comprise the entire cell phone number
- For example my phone number is 0275755359. So you’d need 10 zeros.
Google Sheets
- Select the cell, range or column.
- Select Format on the Menu
- Select Number > Custom Number Format
- Type in the number of zeros that comprise the entire cell phone number.
- For example with 0275755359 you’d need 10 zeros.
Password, Passwords – just a timely reminder
Once again compromised logins and passwords are in the news, here in New Zealand the AA has notified that it has one of its sites breache, so here are 5 tips for you to remember.
- Do not reuse/recycle passwords
- Do not make them easy to guess
- But make them easy to remember,
– For example: instead of P@SsT5y&R something like Get’s.Go.When! - Change them regularly
- And finally use a Password Manager and 2FA (Two factor Authentication) for key sites.
You can also check to see if you’re part of a known breach by going to https://haveibeenpwned.com
